Walt Disney Studios creates Kingdom Comics
(released 5/29/2008)

Walt Disney Studios just signed a multi-year deal with the trio of Ahmet Zappa (yes, Frank's son), Harris Katleman, and Christian Beranek. They will oversee the newly created entity Kingdom Comics.

Trying to follow Marvel and DC's lead, KC plans to develop new graphic novels to create new film projects. Disney also plans on re-using characters from their live-action Vault.

Zappa said, "The ability to create new publications based on properties from the Disney vaults, and to develop original ideas for graphic novels and possibly future Disney films, is a dream job filled with enormous fun and potential. Being a storyteller myself, I can't wait to work with some of today's top writers and artists in bringing a fresh approach to graphic novels and the movies. We're also excited to discover and develop promising new talents in this field."

Kingdom Comics has not yet made any announcements regarding a roster of novelists or artists. Disney Publishing Worldwide will have the first crack at distributing KC's publications.

Disney released the information on Wednesday, May 28th from their Burbank headquarters.
