Jamie Foxx Unchained on the Oscar Stage
(released 2/19/2013)

Jamie Foxx has been announced as a presenter at the Oscars (TM) that will be televised around the world February 24, 2013. Foxx won an Academy Award for his role in Ray bringing to life the legendary talent of Ray Charles. This year's film Django Unchained has Foxx in the starring role depicting a slave Django who is given his freedom on the terms that he help a bounty hunter, played by Christoph Waltz, with his work.

The film directed by Quentin Tarantino is nominated for Academy Awards in several categories. Christoph Waltz is being recognized for Actor in a Supporting Role, Cinematography Robert Richardson, Sound Editing Wylie Statemen, Writing Original Screenplay Quentin Tarantino, and Best Picture nominations for producing Stacey Sher, Reginald Hudlin, and Pilar Savone.

Foxx's character Django struggles to obtain freedom in a time in history where a person of color was not granted equal civil rights. Today, the idea of equality still resonates in Jamie Foxx's personal life. He serves as a voice in current events unfolding regarding 17 year old Trayvon Martin being gunned down in Sanford, Florida on February 26, 2011.  A neighboorhood watchman claims self defense as reasoning for killing Trayvon, a young man walking home to where he was staying with his father.

Foxx said, "It makes it seem like maybe nothing would happen about it. We live in 2011, 2012, 2013, where you feel like... that the human spirit should always win out, but then you have to shake your head and say there is always something brewing, like my grandmother used to say, 'The devil is always busy.'"

Foxx will take the Oscars (TM) stage as a presenter as will fellow actors Jennifer Aniston, John Travolta, Paul Rudd, Liam Neeson, Melissa McCarthy and Micheal Douglas. The televised event will air on ABC television network.
