Independent Spirit Awards Accepting Submissions

Film Independent Spirit Awards are now taking submissions for nominations. The awards ceremony will be held February 27, 2016 with nominees officially announced in November 2015. Regular submission deadline is approaching in September. Look for the exclusive premiere of the awards on IFC.

Entering it's 31st year, the ceremony acknowledges the films that have found the economic means to be made by independent film creators. Categories up for nominations include:

Best Feature, First Feature, Screenplay, First Screenplay,  Director, John Cassavetes Award (best feature made for a budget under $500,000), Best Male Lead, Female Lead,  Supporting Male,  Supporting Female, Best Cinematography, Editing, International Film, and Best Documentary. The Filmmaker Grants include: the Producers Award, the Truer Than Fiction Award and the Someone to Watch Award.

Film Independent offers filmmakers year round inspiration and education in the process of making movies. The Los Angeles Film Festival and Film Independent at LACMA Film Series are open to the general public, adding to the range of community of makers.
